Hyundai has just announced a major update to the entire Ioniq 5 range, which will debut this month in its home market and reach other markets early this year.
Hyundai’s electric “SUV”, the Ioniq 5, is a fairly popular car, but the Korean automaker is not resting on its laurels, as it has just introduced an improved version of the vehicle. The most notable change is the increase in battery capacity for extended range versions of the Ioniq 5, from 77.4 kWh to 84 kWh.
This will result in greater range, although Hyundai has yet to reveal the exact figures. Based on the previous battery size, the base long-range Ioniq 5 had a range of 507 km. With the new battery, it could reach around 550 km.

What other improvements for the Ioniq 5?
The exterior of the Ioniq 5 has also been refreshed, with new front and rear bumpers that add 20mm to the vehicle’s length, which now measures 4,665mm. The height and width remain unchanged. The rear spoiler has been lengthened by 50 mm and the wheels have been redesigned to improve the vehicle’s aerodynamics.
The interior of the Ioniq 5 has also received some improvements, such as a new steering wheel design and a better layout of the infotainment and climate controls. The center console now has a physical button that provides access to frequently used functions, such as heated and ventilated seats, heated steering wheel and the parking assist function. The wireless charging pad for smartphones has also been moved from the bottom to the top of the console.
The Ioniq 5’s software has also been updated, with the infotainment system now featuring a “connected car navigation cockpit” (ccNC), which Hyundai says will provide a more intuitive and convenient user experience .
The updated Ioniq 5 will also come with new safety and convenience features, such as a hands-free steering wheel (HOD), which will monitor the driver’s attention and alert them if they are not holding correctly the wheel. Other features include Lane Keeping Assist, Remote Smart Parking Assist, and Front/Side/Rear Parking Collision-Avoidance Assist.
The ride, handling and safety of the Ioniq 5 will also be improved thanks to some structural improvements. Hyundai will reveal full specifications and range increases for the refreshed Ioniq 5 range closer to its mid-year launch. We will obviously keep you informed as soon as we know more.
