The Hyundai Ioniq 5 SUV is getting some updates, including its prices, for its 2023 vintage. These new features may well be of interest to customers of this model.
While waiting for the arrival of its novelty Ioniq 6 in France, it is the Ioniq 5 model which offers some improvements, unveiled in a press release published on July 7, at the turn of a new vintage. The 2023 version of the Hyundai Ioniq 5 sees the capacity of its battery increase, but it is also an opportunity for the brand to integrate other technological and comfort elements.
Longer battery life and charging improvements
By increasing the capacity of its large battery from 72.6 to 77.4 kWh, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is able to offer up to 507 km of autonomy.
To exceed the 500 km of autonomy, it is however necessary to choose the version with 2 driving wheels equipped with rims of 19 inches. By opting, for example, for the 4-wheel drive version or with 20-inch rims, consumption flirts with 18 kWh/100 km (WLTP), i.e. 1 kWh/100 km more than the 19-inch rear-wheel drive version. . This drops the range below 500 km.
With this new 77.4 kWh/100 km battery pack, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 also benefits from a new battery pre-conditioning system to facilitate recharging. This feature is especially useful during long journeys in cool weather conditions. It allows charging at full power, without having to wait for the battery to rise to the right temperature during charging. This requires that the charging station is programmed in the GPS navigation. The pre-conditioning system will, when approaching the charging station, trigger the battery warming up to prepare the vehicle for fast charging.
The version of Ioniq 5 equipped with the small 58 kWh battery does not change with this new vintage and does not benefit from pre-conditioning either.
Two other new features: camera mirrors and improvements to the intelligent damping system
During its presentation, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 already appeared in the images with camera exterior mirrors. They were currently reserved for the Korean market. They will now be available as an option on the European version with the 2023 vintage. This equipment is however reserved for the Executive finish, the highest in the catalog.
The central mirror can also be replaced by a camera version, instead of being a simple mirror. These camera mirrors offer a sharp image, but their use is not suitable for everyone, especially if you wear glasses.
Finally, the last improvement of the 2023 model year concerns the operation of the intelligent damping system of Ioniq 5. The vehicle relies heavily on the comfort provided to passengers, sometimes a little too much for our taste compared to the test we did. . Hyundai therefore announces that it has improved this system: “ The SFD system is able to adjust and distribute damping forces according to the frequency of road stresses. When the load frequency is high, the damping forces are significantly reduced, resulting in a smoother ride. Conversely, when the frequency is lower, the damping forces are maintained at a constant rate to optimize handling and body control. »
Unfortunately, as with all manufacturers, this new vintage also comes with rising prices, increases generally between €2,500 and €3,000 depending on the version and finish:
