Hyundai Ioniq 6: the hunting and performance N versions on the program?

The head of design at Hyundai has reportedly suggested that the newly announced electric sedan, the Ioniq 6, could come in two additional variants: a station wagon and an N performance version.

We told you about it recently, the Hyundai Ioniq 6 was unveiled at the very end of June, and has technical characteristics at the level of what is best in the segment of electric sedans. With a look that leaves no one indifferent, it is quite natural thatAutoexpress asked the head of the brand’s design department about what he could consider as changes to come on his new sedan, and he got into the game, even if it meant revealing possible plans for the future.

A shooting break for the Ioniq 6

Often singled out for its limited trunk opening, the Tesla Model 3 is one of the electric sedans that cannot have a tailgate, and which therefore prevents some owners from loading bulky objects into their trunk because of the trunk. The same limitation will be there with the Hyundai Ioniq 6, but SangYup Lee, the head of the design department, hinted at the possibility of improvement on this point.

Indeed, when asked if a version with a tailgate had been considered, SangYup Lee replied that he could modify the design to make it an estate version, thus suggesting that a more practical model with a tailgate was in the pipeline. Besides that, he also confessed that the Ioniq 6 “ would make a great performance model“, which also makes it possible to anticipate the possible release of a GT version, or rather N to respect the nomenclature of the Korean manufacturer, as is the case with the Kia EV6 cousin in its high-performance GT version.

An Ioniq 6N?

This N performance version, if it uses characteristics comparable to the Kia EV6 GT, would have a 77.4 kWh battery, around 600 horsepower, and would bring down the 0 to 100 km / h in less than four seconds.

Finally, during this interview, the head of design at Hyundai admitted that the traditional refreshments of vehicles during their life cycle were going to focus less and less on material aspects (cosmetic changes, modification of the light signature, etc.) , but rather rely on remote updates to bring new features.

The Hyundai Ioniq 5 is finally getting remote OTA updates, but it's disappointing

Like many other models, the Hyundai Ioniq 5 now benefits from remote updating. For now, this feature is only reserved for the infotainment system.
