(Boursier.com) — Hyundai Motor Group today opened the doors of its innovation center in Singapore (HMGICS) to accelerate the realization of its vision of the human-centered mobility of tomorrow. This site inaugurates a new concept of ‘intelligent urban mobility hub’, which integrates a highly automated flexible production system while offering electric vehicle (EV) buyers new ways to interact with their vehicle and the Hyundai brand. HMGICS embodies the Group’s determination to work towards progress through its global leadership in the development of innovative and sustainable mobility solutions and resolutely avant-garde customer experiences.
Given Singapore’s global reputation for innovation and diversity, Hyundai Motor Group determined that the city-state would be the ideal location to establish its first truly revolutionary smart urban mobility hub.

Adopting a human-centered manufacturing approach, HMGICS takes collaboration between humans, robotics and artificial intelligence (AI) to unprecedented levels of synchronization. Additionally, this digital twin meta-factory technology will ensure lightning-fast responses to changing customer demands and production requirements.

Fitting perfectly into the urban landscape of the Jurong Innovation District and more broadly into Singapore’s smart city ecosystem, the 86,900 m2 seven-story HMGICS factory offers an annual production capacity of 30,000 EVs. Commissioned in early 2023, HMGICS is already producing IONIQ 5 and the fully autonomous robotaxi derived from IONIQ 5, and IONIQ 6 will complete the range of models manufactured on site next year.

The factory will serve as a testbed for the development of future mobility solutions – including special-purpose vehicles – through its advanced manufacturing capabilities.
As part of its ongoing collaboration with Singapore, HMGICS will donate the first IONIQ 5 produced in its factory to the National Museum of Singapore, as a symbol of the celebration of a historic moment, namely the production of the first electric vehicle in Singapore . This IONIQ 5 will be exhibited periodically during the museum’s various exhibitions and kept in the National Collection, which brings together all historical objects.
