What if you discovered the secret ingredient for skin without spots or blemishes? That’s what an American dermatologist suggests. A particular active ingredient could be the key to effectively combating acne and hyperpigmentation. It’s finally summer and many women are going to take advantage of the sun’s rays to tan and look better! But for some of us, the sun unfortunately makes brown spots appear. While this is a fairly common skin problem, it is no less self-conscious for women who suffer from it.
Indeed, dark spots can affect the self-confidence of those who are desperate to get rid of them. Worse still, using the wrong products on the skin can attack it even more. This is why it is important to use suitable products for your crusade against dark spots. In an interview for the media Byrdie, American dermatologist Marisa Garshick reveals the ingredient that could revolutionize your skincare routine treating not only acne, but also dark spots and hyperpigmentation.

Also known as vitamin B3, “niacinamide has become popular because it is an ingredient that is a great option to help target skin concerns such as discoloration and redness without being harsh and damaging to the skin,” explains the dermatologist. Before adding that this active ingredient “stimulates the production of ceramides in the skin; this is crucial for maintaining the barrier function”. Furthermore, niacinamide has “anti-inflammatory properties which help soothe redness and skin irritations”, and that “balance sebum production while reducing the appearance of pores.”

Available as creams or serums, niacinamide also improves uniformity of complexionwhile being non-photosensitizing. It is recommended to gradually integrate this ingredient into your skincare routine, starting with concentrations of 2 to 5%, or even up to 10% if your skin tolerates it well, as advised by the dermatologist.
How to incorporate niacinamide into your beauty routine?
For optimal results, it is advisable to apply niacinamide once or twice a day, morning and evening. But most importantly, you can combine it with other active ingredients. For example, the combination of niacinamide with vitamin C is known to even out the complexion and give it radiance. Similarly, hyaluronic acid, which maintains skin hydration, combines perfectly with niacinamide, thus strengthening the skin barrier and improving moisture retention, particularly beneficial for combination and dry skin.

Finally, the combined use of retinol and niacinamide is ideal for those looking to treat skin blemishes. That’s because retinol promotes the production of collagen and elastin, while niacinamide regulates sebum and limits bacterial proliferation associated with acne breakouts.
