Véronique Nichanian is the new guest of the podcast “Le Goût de M” proposed by M The magazine of the world. The artistic director of men’s fashion at Hermès answered questions from journalist and producer Geraldine Sarratia from her apartment.

Véronique Nichanian recalls her childhood in Paris between an epicurean and demanding father, who shares with his children his taste for travel, taking them in particular to Venice every summer, and a stay-at-home mother who loves to cook. Very quickly, she made her own clothes, with varying degrees of success, but a real pleasure to do things. She remembers this raincoat made from an oilcloth whose sleeve fell that very afternoon. She joined the union chamber of haute couture before doing her ranges at Nino Cerruti. Years of joyful training spent discovering many skills and multiple cultures, dividing his time between Paris, Italy and Japan.

In 1988, she joined Hermès with the project of making clothes and not fashion: “The men’s locker room suits me well, she says, because I like this essential side. ” This does not prevent it from integrating a little color and making sensitive the sensuality of the materials, as with this lambskin pocket bag. Véronique Nichanian seeks to create pieces that speak to the person who wears them. Like an object to which one attaches. With the ambition to include his creations in the future and in a variety of proposals: “I find this kind of diktat totalitarian imposed by the fashion of a silhouette, of a template. It is time for all of this to explode. ” For her, having taste is first and foremost, “Express something unique”.
