Very touched, Xavier Dolan indicates “constantly dreaming of him. These are sometimes quite cruel dreams because they are hyper realistic situations. The awakening is even more brutal because we thought we were in real life“, he continues, with a trembling voice. As he finds himself facing a portrait of his friend, projected on the overhead projector in the room, he has very hard to watch and tries to continue his explanations when the tears start to well up.

The loss of his friend was a very upsetting moment for him, who painted a very touching portrait of the actor. “I saw a lot of interviews of him when he died. He was someone who liked words, who liked to think. He often looked up before speaking, as if looking up at the sky a little“, first explained Xavier Dolan. Subsequently, he specifies that each “speech was relevant, weighed, measured, cultivated. He was someone literate, he was someone curious. He spoke well and then he spoke when he had to speak“. However, the director did not attend his friend’s funeral and he wanted to give an explanation. “I wanted to come to the funeral. But… I don’t know. It was far away and then it was public. There were a lot of people. I was a little scared with the Covid and…”, he confided before stopping suddenly when the photograph of Gaspard Ulliel was displayed by his side. As a reminder, many personalities had made the trip to pay a final tribute to the actor, who died at only 37 years old.
