“I didn’t give a damn about it”, Eddy Mitchell on the homage to Johnny Hallyday

A characteristic outspokenness. In an interview for The Parisian published this Thursday, September 23, Eddy Mitchell returned to his absence from the homage of Johnny Hallyday. And like many fans, he did not hide his displeasure at a statue “disaster” who “Evokes nothing”, adding that “It’s not Johnny”.

This work of art, installed on the esplanade of the AccorHotels Arena Bercy concert hall, represents a guitar neck on which is placed a blue Harley Davidson belonging to the rocker who died in 2017. “I’m not in their heads, but I don’t think the fans are happy with it. Anyway, I don’t like the places that commemorate nor the statues, the pigeons shit on them ”, explained Laura Smet’s godfather. The decried object was unveiled on September 14 in front of an audience of fans who came in large numbers to make a tribute to their favorite artist.

“I watched on TV and I zapped”

While the same evening took place the concert organized by Laeticia Hallyday, Eddy Mitchell was not showing. Asked about the reason for this absence, the 79-year-old artist said he did not regret not having participated. “I watched TV and skipped. I didn’t participate because I didn’t give a damn.”. In another interview for Pure Charts, he explained “Not (doing) the Restos du cœur, so I don’t see why I would go and do this kind of bullshit”. With his usual outspokenness, the Vieille Canaille also criticized the widow of Taulier who announced that the money generated by ticket sales would be donated to an association fighting against cancer. “But of course…”, he retorted.

If Eddy Mitchell was absent from this event, that doesn’t mean he forgot about his great friend. On the contrary. He decided to pay tribute to him with his new song “A little bit of love”, unveiled this Friday.
