“I didn’t kill anyone”: back in France, Le Serpent breaks the silence against Audrey Crespo-Mara

This Sunday, February 5, Audrey Crespo-Mara received Charles Sobhraj, better known as the “Snake”, in the show Sept à Huit. Recently released after being sentenced to life imprisonment by the Nepalese authorities, the famous serial killer has delivered his truth.

In 2021, Netflix viewers discovered the series The snakein which Tahar Rahim plays the role of Charles Sobhraj. Now 78 years old, the latter spent twenty years behind bars in India for committing murders in India and Thailand in the 1970s. In 2004, the killer had also been sentenced in Nepal to life imprisonment for the murders of an American tourist, Connie Joe Bronzich, and a Canadian, Laurent Carrière, in 1975. He has finally released last December because of his state of health which was not deemed compatible with detention.

And this Sunday, February 5, Charles Sobhraj spoke for the first time since his release on the show Sept à Huit on TF1. Faced with Audrey Crespo-Mara, he notably returned to his very particular modus operandi. “I made contact with someone, I preferred businessmen, we spent the day together, it went towards the evening, then we drink something together and I put a drug in his drink well dosed so that he falls asleep only when he reaches his room“, confided the killer, before adding: “and that’s where I get his stuff, usually the money.”

Charles Sobhraj: “I am not a serial killer”

The one who was nicknamed The Serpent – because of his ability to “put his victims to sleep, slip through the fingers of investigators or escape from prison” – also estimated “100 or 150” the number of times he smuggled across borders. “I always traveled with a false passport, at that time, changing the photos took twenty minutes”, he said. Suspected of having committed around thirty crimes, Charles Sobhraj however assured that he never took his life. “I am not a murderer. I didn’t kill anyone. I am not a serial killer. It’s a claim, and I’ll prove it.”he concluded.
