I don’t believe we’ve entered an ‘inflationary spiral’, says Le Maire

PARIS (Reuters) – France has not entered an inflationary spiral, French Economy and Finance Minister Bruno Le Maire said on Sunday on the Le Grand Jury program on RTL, LCI and Le Figaro.

“I have figures that are similar to those of the Banque de France, similar to those of the European Central Bank,” he said.

“The reality is that we are coming out of several decades of relatively low inflation, then we had the shock of COVID. (…) The return of inflation comes first from the strength of the economic recovery,” he added.

“When we come out of this energy shock, I hope in a few months, I think we will find a more moderate level of inflation. To be honest, I do not believe that we have entered an inflationary spiral where the Inflation would always get higher, month after month, year after year.”
