Briton Alan Moore recently spoke of a rather icy exchange with Damon Lindelof, who adapted his cult work “Watchmen” on the small screen.

In an interview recently granted to GQ, the British author, not at all a fan of adaptations of his works in general, returned to a rather icy interview with Damon Lindelof, the showrunner of the HBO show unveiled at the end of 2019.
Alan Moore first recalled having received a letter full of self-mockery from Lindelof, eager to have some advice for his adaptation. A letter that began with these words: “Dear Mr. Moore, I am one of the b… who are currently destroying Watchmen”. Moore, who notes that “it wasn’t the best introduction ever”says he responded quite curtly to the missive.
“I responded in a very abrupt and probably hostile manner, telling him that I believe Warner Bros. was aware that no one from the studio should contact me for any reason.”Moore tells GQ.
“I explained that I was disowning the work in question, in part because the film and comic book industries seemed to have created things that had nothing to do with my work, but would be associated with it in people’s minds. “he continues. “I said to Damon Lindelof, ‘Look, I’m embarrassed. I don’t want anything to do with you or your show. Please don’t bother me anymore.”
And Alan Moore to affirm that he has never watched a film or a series based on his work. “I would be the last person to want to sit down to watch an adaptation of my work. From what I have heard from these adaptations, it would be like giving me a great punishment. It would be torture”he concludes.
