This Thursday, September 26, Claire Chazal was a guest on the show Buzz TV, of TV Magazine. The 67-year-old journalist gave her sincere point of view on the new extended format of the 8 p.m. television news broadcast on France 2 and presented by her colleague Anne-Sophie Lapix. “Sorry… I am not going to be disloyal to France Télévisions […] and I wish them to succeed, naturally”, she first warned, evoking her own “experience” as news host, which allows her to draw conclusions.
“Frankly, I would never have done it, that’s it. Because we presented newspapers of 40 minutes for years, and the idea was that when something really happened – and it did – [on allait jusqu’à 21 heures]”, declared Claire Chazal, specifying that it was a way of “show viewers [qu’ils faisaient] a hierarchy of information and [qu’ils accordaient] enormous importance to the event” in question. “Suddenly, there was something exceptional happening… There, I don’t know how we can build a hierarchy of information over an hour, every day,” she said frankly.

A “attention” difficult to capture for an hour?
“From experience, it’s not easy to build a newspaper. […] There is a beginning, a middle and an end, it’s very important, but you can’t do something with fillers or fillers, it’s impossible and you can see it straight away.” assured the journalist. She then recalled that the magazine format has its place in a news program, even over a period of forty minutes: “We plan it, a few days in advance, it’s organized and we offer different formats in a newspaper and that’s its diversity,” affirmed Claire Chazal, convinced that “over an hour, every day, […] the viewer’s attention cannot be sustained for the information.” “I think so, but I could be wrong, obviously”, she qualified, as objectively as possible.
