“I dreamed of being a boy”: the astonishing confidences of Joyce Jonathan on her childhood


Friday March 11, 2022, Joyce Jonathan granted an interview to the Parisian. On the occasion of the release of her fifth album, the singer made some confidences about her childhood.

At 32, Joyce Jonathan is a fulfilled woman. Having become the mother of a little Ghjulia in November 2020, the singer is back on the front of the stage with the release of her fifth album. In full promotion of the latter, entitled The little pretty thingsit is in an interview granted to the Parisian that the pretty brunette indulged in a few confidences. She thus confided:I hate doing nothing, not having new projects. At home, I’m very calm, but outside, I like the unexpected, the adventure. When I was little, I dreamed of being a boy. At school, until the age of 8, I called myself Michaël, I went to the boys’ locker rooms and called my mistresses chick, which earned my parents a few words. I also wanted to be Jean-Jacques Goldman.Finally, she added:My father, at the time, was very strict and he dreamed that his daughters would go to great schools. In college, I took singing lessons on the sly.

This isn’t the first time Joyce Jonathan has spoken about her wish to be a boy. In April 2016, it was on the show Folie Passagère on France 2 that she said: “I wanted to be a little boy, because I had understood that my mother, who had already had two daughters – my two older sisters – was expecting a boy. To please my mother, I tell myself: ‘I’m going to be a boy.’ So I call myself Mickaël, and for two years, I am Mickaël. I had messages in my correspondence book, like: ‘Joyce should stop taking herself for a boy, stop calling her mistress Poulette.’

Joyce Jonathan wished she was a boy

After revealing that she had learned “to pee standing up”, the singer revealed how she had stopped pretending to be a boy. One day she asked her mother:Are you happy, after all, that I’m a little girl?“The latter would then have answered him:”But yes, as soon as you arrived in the world, I immediately loved you.“A click for the star, who confided:”There, apparently, I asked him to put barrettes on me and I dressed as a girl.
