“I had a very strong depression”: Charlotte Gainsbourg marked by the removal of her children

In an interview with Psychologies Magazine, Charlotte Gainsbourg confided in the departure of her children’s family home, an upheaval that plunged her into a deep depression.

For its next edition to be published next January, Psychologies Magazine has met Charlotte Gainsbourg. During this interview, the 50-year-old actress confided in her life as a mother. Together, Charlotte Gainsbourg and Yvan Attal are parents of three children: Ben (24), Alice (19) and Joe (10). But when her two eldest children left the family cocoon, the actress couldn’t stand it. “There were three of us, in this big apartment, and I had a very strong depression, she reveals.

During this painful phase, Charlotte Gainsbourg was able to count on the unconditional support of her mother, Jane Birkin. “My mother held my hand, she was completely there for me”, assured the daughter of Serge Gainsbourg. Very close to her mother, Charlotte Gainsbourg filmed her for years to make her film Jane by Charlotte, at the cinema on January 12th. “To film it was also to reassure me”, admits the actress before specifying: “When you have had a depression, the feeling of fear is constant. You are afraid of losing ground, afraid of losing those you love”. So for Charlotte Gainsbourg, do this movie was the way “to keep her somewhere forever. It was really hard for me to tell myself that it was over. “

Charlotte Gainsbourg does not know “what she would have done without children”

Last spring, in the columns of Marie Claire, Charlotte Gainsbourg, who rarely confides in her private life, had confided: “I don’t know what I would have done without children.” And for the education of her children, she relies instead on her partner, with whom she never married: “I don’t have great educational principles, I’m not sure I won’t go wrong. I often trust Yvan for his rigorous side, at home it’s more instinctive. Children, you have to learn to do without them, seeing them go is difficult. “
