“I haven’t signed anything with Meta”: what is this strange message that is setting Facebook on fire?

In recent days, many users have published a message on Facebook and invited their contacts to copy/paste it.

If you are a user of the Facebook platform, then you could not have missed a message recently shared by many subscribers. The message in question states in particular in the preamble: “ I haven’t signed anything with Meta. The new Facebook/Meta rule starts tomorrow where they can use your photos. Remember, the deadline is today! “. The user is then invited to solemnly ask the Meta entity not to use their personal data.

A strange viral message on Facebook…

Many messages emerged this weekend on Facebook, concerning new rules allowing Facebook to use users’ photos. The latter quickly went viral, and follows Meta’s recent announcement regarding the launch of a paid subscription, aimed at allowing the user to get rid of advertisements on the platform.

Better (or worse) still, in order to facilitate sharing for the most gullible users, and the least computer-savvy, the message takes care of explaining the copy/paste technique: “ Hold your finger anywhere in this message and “copy” will appear. Click “copy”. Then go to your page, create a new post and place your finger anywhere in the empty field. “Paste” will appear and click Paste. This will bypass the system… Which does nothing conscious “.

But which, once again, has no legal value

Obviously, this type of message is devoid of any legal value or interest. Some will undoubtedly remember a similar message, published a few years ago, inviting users to express their desire to continue to use Facebook for free, again, by copying a (useless) message on their wall.

Even if the message is intended to be alarmist, copying it onto your wall will have no benefit other than polluting your contacts’ news feed a little more. To best manage the data gleaned by Facebook, you should go to the application’s privacy settings.

However, by registering on a social network (or using a website, an application, etc.), you approve in advance the basic rules that define it. These conditions of use, accepted by users upon registration, are the only texts governing data collection. The most effective way to avoid any abusive reuse of personal data is not to subscribe.

Note that some users, having immediately noticed the useless nature of the message, quickly published a parody message on their wall, aiming to mock users who were a little too gullible and always so quick to spread false information.
