While the first opus of “Avatar” comes out in theaters this Wednesday, James Cameron recently spoke about the pre-production of the film, and the unstoppable argument which had enabled him to convince the studio.
Even today, and since its release in 2009, it is quite simply the greatest success in the history of cinema.
However, before being able to embark on the great Avatar adventure, James Cameron had to convince the production to embark with him on the planet Pandora. He who had already accomplished real feats at the box office with Aliens, Terminator 2 and especially the monumental Titanic, was indeed forced to deploy his arguments.
“We argued over some things. For example, the studio felt the movie needed to be shorter and there were too many flying sequences with…what humans call banshees”James Cameron recently told the microphone of the New York Timesevoking the flying dragons ridden by the characters.
In order to defend his project, Cameron ended up using drastic measures, and by invoking the triumph of his last film: the epic of a certain ocean liner which had garnered more than 2 billion dollars throughout the world.

“There’s a point where I just set the boundaries, and I said to them, ‘You know what? I made Titanic. This building that we’re meeting in, this new complex of half a billion dollars in your studios, Titanic paid for it, so I’ll do [mon film].’ And later they thanked me.”
Faced with this unstoppable argument, the leaders of the studio have indeed validated Cameron’s new dream. The result, we know it: 2.847 billion dollars worldwide, the biggest success of all time, and four sequels officially in preparation.
