I missed out on the Nintendo Switch 2 without knowing it

It seems that the Nintendo Switch 2 was at gamescom, a video games fair organized in Cologne, where Numerama was present. But it would only have been presented to developers.

The more the days pass, the closer we get to the release of a new Nintendo console, which will succeed the Switch. If the latter maintains an incredible sales rate considering its age, the Japanese firm will not be able to count on it forever. This is the meaning of the story: in 2024, the hybrid console will celebrate its seven years and we risk seeing more and more rumors about a possible Switch 2.

Better, it seems that this Switch 2 already exists. At least that’s what Eurogamer reports in an article published on September 7. I even found myself a few meters from her without knowing it. Indeed, the media, very serious, mentions a private presentation to certain privileged developers (no press invited, therefore), organized at gamescom (video games show covered by Numerama). This indiscretion is corroborated by Video Games Chronicles, which cites its own sources.

The “Switch 2” would already exist (incredible)

The first demo that the studios were able to attend would concern The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, with a visually more accomplished version in terms of framerate and definition. Please note, this does not mean that this Link adventure will be released on a possible Switch 2: we are talking here about a technical presentation used to show what the future Nintendo console would be capable of.

The second demo would have been based on the Matrix Awakens experience developed using Unreal Engine 5 – an engine designed by Epic Games. An experience that owners of a PS5 and/or Xbox Series know well since they were able to download it to their console. Here again, the idea would have been to highlight the capabilities of the Switch 2, a priori compatible with Nvidia’s DLSS upscaling technology (with ray tracing). Which should have been the case with the Switch Pro.

Obviously, the veracity of this presentation means nothing as to the timetable planned by Nintendo concerning the officialization of the Switch 2 (the name of which we do not know). We can just say that a new console is indeed in preparation from the Japanese multinational, which will not surprise many people. Nintendo has already confirmed that there will be no Switch 2 launched during the current fiscal year, which ends on March 31, 2024. But, beyond this date, anything is possible and we can hope for commercialization before Christmas if things really pick up.
