“I owe a lot to those around me”: the confidences of Alexis Pinturault in his book “De l’or au cristal”

Launching his season through a book. Two weeks before the start of the alpine ski season for the Sölden giant, on October 23, Alexis Pinturault is already on the track. His book From gold to crystalco-published with Olivier Villepreux, launches a season rich in intensity for the native of Courchevel.

In this book, published by Marabout, the Savoyard wanted to share the moments that made him a champion. “In this book, I come back to the highlights of my career,” says the holder of six Crystal Globes. Not to mention his surroundings. “I owe a lot to my family, but not only. There are also all those who are there on a daily basis”, specifies Alexis Pinturault, referring to his partner Romane, also his press officer.

“I grew up in a snow tub”

“Children grow up in a sandbox. I grew up in a snowbox”, smiles the Courchevellois at the microphone of Europe 1. It is in his father’s hotel that the future champion makes a name for himself . First as “Alexis” with loyal customers, and later as “Alexis Pinturault” with his biggest fans who only come to the resort for one purpose, to meet the French champion.

This autobiographical book is also a way for him to express all the work he had to accomplish to reach this level. It traces his evolution as a man and an athlete. The champion does not forget to mention his exploits but also his moments of doubt.

Times of doubt

And for good reason, despite an impressive record (34 World Cup victories), the winner of the Crystal Globe for the 2021-2022 season has thought several times of quitting. “I told myself several times that I had to stop at the right time”, explains Alexis Pinturault. But the call of the snow has always taken over. At 31, the French skier is “in the starting blocks” for the new season.

A season which will also have a particular taste since it will include world championships in … Courchevel, in February 2023. So at home for the French champion. “The pleasure is still there”, enthuses Pinturault. A good omen for extending an already unequaled record in French skiing.
