A new tragedy struck Martine Aubry this Wednesday, December 27. Jacques Delors, figure of the French socialist left, great defender of the European Union and father of the former First Secretary of the Socialist Party, is died at the age of 98. A great pain for the politician who loses there the last member of his first family circle, after the death of his mother, Marie, in 2020, but also of his little brother Jean-Paul, years earlier, in 1982, when the latter was only 29 years old. A real shock, the disappearance of the politician’s youngest son markedly marked throughout his lifeas journalists Rosalie Lucas and Marion Mourgue talked about in their book Martine Aubry: the secrets of ambitionpublished in 2011 by Éditions de L’Archipel.
In these pages, the journalists returned to the year 2002, when the book appeared The Lady of 35 Hoursqualified for “real indictment” against the mayor of Lille and who allows himself to mention the death of Jean-Paul and the consequences that this tragedy had on his familywhile the subject is a real taboo for Martine Aubry and those close to her: “After his disappearance, his parents and his sister try to protect each other. Twenty years later, the release of the book by Philippe Alexandre and Béatrix de l’Aulnoit caused a lot of noise. The one who was then first assistant to Pierre Mauroy in Lille had difficulty accepting“ write the journalists Rosalie Lucas and Marion Mourgue, before revealing the testimony of a collaborator of Martine Aubry: “I saw her crying in her office” confided the latter. Affected deep within by this loss, Martine Aubry, like her father and mother, was never able to heal this still very raw wound.

Jacques Delors and Martine Aubry: what were their relationships?
Close in the private sector, Martine Aubry and Jacques Delors have always pay attention to mark the distinction between their family life and public life. If the politician and his wife have expressed their support for their daughter several times in the media, there is no question of constantly acting in support behind each of her decisions. For her part, Martine Aubry, without talking too much about it, did not hide the love she had for her father and mother but still expressed his regrets sometimes at the lack of expression and pride which Jacques Delors could demonstrate. A defect which, however, did not alter the love that father and daughter had for each other, in all discretion.
