“I shouldn’t have done it”: Muriel Robin regrets having played in The Visitors 2

In 1998, Muriel Robin agreed to replace Valérie Lemercier in the second part of the saga Visitors. In an interview with Jordan De Luxe for Tele-Leisure, an extract of which was unveiled on Tuesday, January 18, the actress explained why she should not have accepted this role.

If today she is flourishing alongside Anne Le Nen, Muriel Robin regrets not having had a great love affair with cinema. According to her, if she has appeared in so few films on the big screen, it is because of her coming out. This is what she confided in the first issue of At Jordan’s, the new appointment Tele-Leisure, an extract of which was unveiled on Tuesday, January 18: “Jodie Foster talked about her homosexuality after thirty years, she was smarter than me. I regret because I missed out on the job I wanted to do“, confided the actress. And to add: “If I had made films, I think that after a while, I would have said it, but I would have had to be very good at the cinema, for it to work very well, to be able to say it and we say to ourselves: ‘ah, shit, but we continue anyway because it works.’

As she spoke of her regrets, Jordan De Luxe wanted to come back with her on one of his outstanding roles in the cinema, namely that of Béatrice de Montmirail in The Corridors of Time: The Visitors 2 released in 1998. Muriel Robin then recalled that she had replaced Valérie Lemercier who, after playing in the first part, had refused to appear in the rest of the saga. Pierre Palmade’s friend explained why she regretted having accepted this role : “I shouldn’t have done it. Already when you’re not chosen, it’s not terrible, but being chosen second… I did it anyway because Valérie Lemercier didn’t want to do it, corn I am not a second. It’s not very good for his ego“, she confided. And to summarize:I wasn’t happy, so I wasn’t very funny, and I haven’t been very good either, because you have to be chosen to give your best.”

Muriel Robin “unhappy” on the set

This is not the first time that Muriel Robin has mentioned this unfortunate shoot. “In The Visitors 2, I was shit! The director didn’t want me. I was replacing someone he loved. I was very unhappy on this shoot and I still wonder today why I made this film“, she confessed, in the columns of France Evening, a few years after the release of the film. Words that corroborated the statements made on the set of It’s up to you, in 2018, where she explained that she had taken “no pleasure” on set. “I think Jean-Marie Poiré does not want Beatrice de Montmirail but Valérie Lemercier in the role of Béatrice de Montmirail. I have my bourgeois but it is not the same bourgeois of Valérie. And he’s not in love with me,” she observed. For her part, Valérie Lemercier had wanted to defend her colleague in Telerama in 2007 : “It would have been necessary to change everything, the name of the character, his family circle, his relationships, his language tics… So that she can feel completely at ease,” she considered.
