This is the trendiest skin cleansing of the moment, the hydrafacial promises to overcome all small skin defects. What is it really ? We tested it. Verdict!

If there’s one facial treatment we keep hearing about, it’s the hydrafacial. The one that we sometimes take for a simple facial treatment in an institute is, in reality, a non-invasive aesthetic treatment which combines the best active ingredients for the skin such as hyaluronic acid, glycolic acid or salicylic acid. Contrary to what its name may suggest, it does not justmoisturize the skin but also reveals anti-aging properties. It’s even an ideal dermatologist treatment to display pretty skin without makeup this summer.

Ultra-customizable according to individual needs, this hyper-trendy facial treatment combines microdermabrasion And hydration in order to deep clean pores and D’improve skin texture. We had the chance to test this treatment protocol, the technology of which is protected by 28 patents, at the Dermomedical Center firm. In which cases should this treatment be performed? Anti-ageing, purifying, radiance booster…, a complete facial treatment

Dilated pores, blackheads, imperfections, lack of radiance, uneven skin texture, the hydrafacial is a perfectly adapted solution because it unclogs congested pores effectively and smoothes the skin while intensely moisturizing it. It is less known, but it will also improve the appearance of redness, reduce excess sebum, firm the face and reduce facial wrinkles. It is therefore a really interesting all-in-one treatment whether you are 20, 40 or 50 and over.

Hydrafacial treatment: how does it work?

This facial treatment, which lasts about 30 minutes, consists of the application of various active ingredients on the skin and is carried out using a tip that creates a vortex effect capable of gently sucking up impurities. There are several (single-use) tips and the dermatologist treating you will simply choose the one that best suits your skin type and the different areas of the face treated. This is why the treatment begins with a skin diagnosis for tailor-made treatment. The hydrafacial takes place in 3 stages:

The dermatologist starts by cleaning the skin with lactic acid and glycolic acid. Lactic acid is an alpha hydroxy acid (AHA) that exfoliates the superficial layers of the skin to smooth the relief. As for glycolic acid, it will target the intercellular glue that retains dead cells to exfoliate the skin by microdermabrasion and peeling. During this step, you may feel a little tingling, as was the case during our test, especially if you have sensitive skin, but it is not painful at all.

  • Extraction and hydration

Still using the suction tip, salicylic acid is then applied to the middle area of the face to unclog blackheads and purify these sebum-rich areas in order to suck up impurities. We also apply hyaluronic acid and peptides to the rest of the face to hydrate and plump the skin. Thanks to the peptides, the skin is loaded with antioxidants. Even if the process is painless, expect to feel your face heat up during this stage because it is at this moment that you feel the active ingredients the most. It surprised us a lot. The reason ? The care actives penetrate very deeply into the skin after this major cleansing and we are clearly not used to it.

The treatment continues with the application of a biocellulose mask on the face which initiates a 8 minute led session to optimize the effects of the treatment. Let’s be honest, this cooling mask is more than welcome when you feel your face heating up. Once the LED session is over, the treatment ends with the application of sunscreen to protect the freshly exfoliated skin from UV rays.

Hydrafacial: our opinion!

The treatment is clearly effective because the first results are visible immediately. You feel your skin clean, the pores are less dilated, the skin is more luminous and it is visibly rejuvenated. However, it is possible to have a very red face for a few hours after the treatment. A detail to take into account when planning your office appointment. You should know that it is after 3 days that we see the real boost offered by the treatment, once the skin begins to regenerate and any redness has completely disappeared.

For best results, it is best to avoid make-up just after the treatment and for the next few days, as long as the pores of the skin are still wide open so as not to clog them again. If you can’t live without it, you can still wear it.

When to do a hydrafacial treatment?

When you want, winter or summer, including just before going on vacation, as long as you apply SPF 50+ sunscreen rigorously.

The best, if your budget allows it, is still to make one “every change of season” if you are between 20 and 40 years old as the dermatologist from the Dermomedical Center explained to us in order to keep your skin clear. For anti-aging effects, however, she advises to do it “every 2 months in maintenance”.

How much does a hydrafacial facial cost?

If each aesthetic medicine practice sets its price, count on average 180€ to have this treatment done by a dermatologist.
