“I was left all alone”, Charlotte Valandrey the fighter delivers her last confidences

A long-term fight. Charlotte Valandrey has died aged 53. Since she was 16, she was fighting HIV. The actress discovered very young in Red Kiss alongside Lambert Wilson, hid his HIV status for a long time. After being considered a rising star of French cinema, she had to face many disappointments during her career. Especially when Jean-Claude Brisseau reallocates the role he had entrusted to him to Vanessa Paradis for the film white wedding. In the 1990s, she suffered froma reputation that sticks to its skinthat of a “boring, a little drugged, not very fit”while the actress fights against the disease.

Before landing his role in Les Cordiers, judge and copthen after undergoing her first heart transplant in 2003, the actress experienced a “slump”. In an interview with Gala last March, she confided in the loneliness that marked his life. “Today, when a Stromae sings about his depression, his suicidal thoughts or when Florent Pagny talks about his fight against cancer, we support them, we encourage them, and that’s good, she notes. Me, at the time, I was left all alone in my corner.” Contaminated in the 1980s, the very young Charlotte Valandrey had to hide his HIV status for almost twenty years. “It seems that the worst torment for people is divorce, moving or being unemployed. Coming out of my transplant, I weighed 35 kg, I divorced, moved, I no longer had a job or a social life. It was a lot”she says.

Still, she holds on. “I didn’t have a lot of self-esteem and, on several occasions, I wanted to stop everything”, she assures. For a long time, Charlotte Valandrey recognizes this, she is angry and continues to experience a feelings of jealousy and injustice. Especially when she realizes, watching her daughter, that she has been “private” of a certain “recklessness”. But at 53, she claimed to have done “peace with it” and have reached self-acceptanceof “its ups and downs”. “I’m starting to say that I’m proud of myself”she admitted.
