A young woman from Yvelines denied pregnancy. She gave her touching testimony and the birth of her son almost a month ago.
Denial of pregnancy is a rare phenomenon. It affects around 2,000 women per year in France. Among them, 300 only notice their condition during childbirth. Élodie Colombier experienced this difficult situation. The young woman, who lives in Saint-Martin-La-Garenne in Yvelines, gave birth to her third child on May 13, 2024. “The day before, everything was fine. And then in the night, I started to have pain like cramps in my lower stomach. For me, it was linked to my health problems (she suffers from endometriosis). I asked my companion to take me to the hospital“, she told the media 78actu.

While the first ultrasound revealed nothing, she performed an ECBU (cytobacteriological examination of urine). “The results came back around 12:30 p.m. I then did it again an ultrasound of the stomach where we saw the baby”, she declared. Finally, she gives birth to her boy during the day. The baby is healthy with a weight of 3.3 kg. “Luckily, I was fine at full term. Emotionally, I was exhausted.”she explained.
A particularly difficult birth
Elodie experienced many symptoms before the painful birth: “All the symptoms a pregnant woman can have in nine months, I got them in just two hours. Immediately, it was put on me, I was able to make contact. I was relieved that he didn’t have any illness.” she said before revealing that her husband had finally found the child’s name.

Although this child was not wanted, she nevertheless decided to love him deeply. “If we decided to keep him, it’s to love him, we’re not going to deny him. I just regret having left it during pregnancy. But for now, he doesn’t seem to be that upset.” she confided. And to continue on the organization: “Apart from a few clothes, we had no equipment. But thanks to the support of a colleague, I was able to collect everything I needed within a few days. I thank her very much.”

How does she explain this denial of pregnancy?
At the moment, she can’t understand how this could have happened: “For my first two children, I felt very quickly that I was pregnant. There, we experienced some problems with our house over the last few months, maybe that’s why“, she explainedé.”Doctors say it’s a natural phenomenon, the body hides things well. In 2019, the young woman had already experienced a difficult birth: “All my births are complicated. For the birth in August 2019 of Alexy, my first child, I gave birth in my car in Gargenville. I was offered psychological follow-up, but I feel good”, she concluded.
