“I was ready to give him my place”, Fabien looks back on the defeat of his son Ugo

Fabien Cicoletta left no one indifferent this Saturday March 12, 2022, in The Voice on TF1, participating in the show at the same time as his son Ugo.

At 49, Fabien Cicoletta already has a lot of experience in the show business. At 16, he began classical dance in Marseille before joining the Ballet du Capitole in Toulouse. However, the singing has always been there. “I started singing around 16, almost at the same time as dancing. I sang with my brother, we had a group when we were younger”, he told us in an interview. After that, the machine was launched. In 1990, Fabien won a singing competition in the southeast, he continued with a tour the following summer.

However, The Voice was quite a challenge for him, especially since it was not planned at all. His participation in the show and his integration into the team of Marc Lavoine, he owes it to his wife. “Several years ago, it was the casters of The Voice who contacted me and it was not followed up”he explains to us. “Then my wife signed me up and my son Ugo this year. And it was a nice surprise. She said, ‘I’ve got someone for you’ and actually it was the production of The Voice who told me I had been selected for the blind auditions.”

Father and son participating separately, a first in The Voice

A few weeks later, it was his son Ugo who learned that he had been selected to take part in The Voice. The challenge was therefore accepted. Fabien and Ugo went on stage at The Voiceeach on their own. “We did not think of singing together. (…) The production had flashed on its rapper side. And then, it was a challenge for us. It was the first time that father and son participated, as separate candidates .”

For his part Fabien took over feeling good by Nina Simonea proposal from the production, but which made sense for him who is particularly fond of this song. “It’s a song that I perform with 26 musicians on an album that paid tribute to Michael Bubblé. When I sang it on stage, my wife danced to it and on the musical bridge we danced together. It’s a song that been following for several years to be honest.” We must believe that it brought him luck since he is now in Marc Lavoine’s team. “When I was on stage and I had to choose my coach. I didn’t know where to go. I wanted to ask my wife for her opinion”he joked.

No regrets in The Voice for Ugo, the son of Fabien

Still, the situation was delicate to say the least since his son, Ugo, by taking up a piece of Soprano did not convince the jury. “At that point, I’m ready to give him my place”says Fabien. “I tell myself that I don’t want to go there so that it’s him who continues. Then, the adventure was with him. I projected myself into the sequel and I said to myself that it was not possible . I wanted to trade places. My son for me, that’s all.” As for Ugo, he does not regret and has taken into account the feedback from the jurors, in the hope of trying his luck again in The Voice when it’s ready. “It motivates me to potentially, in a few years, try the show again”he told us during the interview with his father. “I don’t regret the choice of the song at all. It’s the one that currently corresponds to me in my life as a rapper. I just wanted to show what I was worth”he added.

Music and the entertainment world is therefore a family affair. “I never pushed them, my children”explains Fabien. “I’m a singing teacher, but I’ve never given them lessons. It’s a father-son exchange that we do. Then, Ugo started very young because the first time he sang, it was was at our wedding, he was nine years old. From there, he never stopped”concluded Fabien.
