After his collapse at the European Championship game, Denmark’s professional footballer Christian Eriksen reports from the hospital. He is doing well “under the circumstances”. He sends many thanks all over the world – and has a special wish for his national team.

Denmark’s Christian Eriksen has reported from his sick bed after his dramatic collapse. “I’m fine – according to the circumstances,” the 29-year-old wrote Instagram and raised a thumb at the camera. “I still have to endure a few tests in the hospital, but I feel good,” he added.

He was also very moved by the support from all over the world, wrote Eriksen. “A big thank you for your sweet and amazing greetings and messages from all over the world. It means a lot to me and my family.” He himself will now cheer on his teammates “at the next games. Play for all of Denmark,” he concluded.

Eriksen collapsed on Saturday in a 1-0 draw against Finland just before half-time in the Parken Stadium in Copenhagen, and emergency doctors and paramedics saved his life with chest compressions. The cause of the collapse is currently just as unclear as the question of whether the Danish top star will suffer long-term health damage.

In the center of Copenhagen, hundreds of people have painted a white wall with graffiti and wishes for Eriksen get well in the past few days. The wall is littered with greetings for several meters. It was built on Ofelia Square near the famous Nyhavn harbor in the Danish capital, where it borders one of the fan zones at this European Championship venue.

Among other things, the British rock icon Rod Stewart (76), an avowed fan of Celtic Glasgow and the Scottish national football team, has sent Eriksen an encouraging message. The midfield ace from Inter Milan wrote: “I hope that you will feel better soon and that you will be completely healthy. May God be with you.” On Monday, Stewart suffered a blow in the neck due to the Bravehearts’ 0-2 bankruptcy in the first European Championship preliminary round against the Czech Republic.
