“I will not debate”: Emmanuel Macron very clear about his campaign intentions
This Monday, March 7, Emmanuel Macron made his first trip as a candidate to the town of Poissy, in the Yvelines. Asked by LCI, the president was very clear about how his campaign was going to unfold.
After officially declaring himself a candidate for the presidential election on March 3, Emmanuel Macron made his first campaign trip on Monday. The Head of State went to Poissy, in the Yvelines, to answer questions from the French concerning both his program and international news, and in particular the situation in Ukraine. At the end of this trip, Emmanuel Macron was questioned by Paul Larrouturou, journalist at LCI, about his campaign intentions, and the president declared that he would not participate in any “debate with the other candidates before the first round”. Emmanuel Macron then justified his decision by explaining that he did not see why he would act differently from his predecessors, like General de Gaulle, François Mitterrand, Jacques Chirac or Nicolas Sarkozy. “No sitting president who is standing for re-election has done so. I don’t see why I would do it differently“, did he declare. Paul Larrouturou then asked Emmanuel Macron if this was not a way to escape. “I do not shy away from the debate. Rather than having meetings where people applaud you because they are already convinced, I prefer the debate with the French, that’s what I owe them”answered the president
