Eriksen reports after a cardiac arrest

It is one of the most shocking moments in European Championship history: The Dane Christian Eriksen suddenly collapses on the field and has to be revived. After his cardiac arrest, the consultant is in touch – with good news.

The Danish national soccer player Christian Eriksen has to stay in the hospital after his collapse, but according to his advisor he is on the mend. “We heard each other this morning. He was joking, he was in a good mood, he is fine,” said Martin Schoots of the “Gazzetta dello Sport” in an interview. “We all want to understand what happened to him, he also wants that: The doctors do thorough examinations, that takes time,” added Schoots. Eriksen says: “Thanks everyone, I won’t give up.”

The 29-year-old midfielder suddenly fell over on Saturday evening just before the half-time break of the group game against Finland and remained motionless. He had suffered cardiac arrest and had to be resuscitated on the lawn. His condition stabilized in the hospital in Copenhagen. “He was happy because he saw how much love he had around him. He got news from all over the world,” said Schoots of his visit to the professional from Italian champions Inter Milan.

“Half the world came forward, everyone was concerned,” said the advisor about the sympathy after the public collapse. “Christian doesn’t give up. He and his family want to thank everyone.” Eriksen will remain under observation in the hospital on Monday and “maybe Tuesday”. “Now he has to recover, his wife and parents are with him,” said Schoots. The midfielder is also following the Danish European Championship games: “In any case, he wants to support his team against Belgium as a fan.”
