“I will recognize endometriosis as a long-term disease”

Presidential 2022. Anne Hidalgo, Socialist Party candidate for the presidential election, answered our questions on women’s health. She details her positions on menstrual leave, PMG, GPA or endometriosis.

The candidates for the presidential election multiply the speeches to defend their programs. They agreed to answer Aufeminin’s questionnaire to discuss their positions on various themes that are dear to us and, unfortunately, little or not mentioned in this campaign. They answer questions about women’s health, women’s rights and gender equality.

After Yannick Jadot and Nicolas Dupont-Aignan, Anne Hidalgo answered our questions about women’s health. The candidate of the Socialist Party thus evoked the establishment of a menstrual leave, the total support of the cost of the sexual health of the woman or her position on the IVG, the PMA, the GPA. She also announced her desire to recognize “endometriosis as a long-term disease”. Anne Hidalgo’s answers on women’s health can be found below.

Contraception, reproduction, medical examinations, periodic protection… The cost of a woman’s sexual health is very high, how do you plan to lighten this burden?

The different contraceptive methods must be accessible while respecting the individual choice of the method. Information will be better provided, in college and high school, from the 3rd class in connection with that on STIs. The extension of coverage to 100% by health insurance will be examined after evaluating the impact of the recent extension to 18/25 year olds.

Several countries around the world, particularly in Asia, have already introduced “menstrual leave”. Is this possible in France? Do you plan to wear this measure?

Menstrual pain is not the same for all women. For some women, this is borderline unbearable and, according to some researchers, they are close to the pain of a heart attack. I will encourage doctors to consider this pain as an illness and to prescribe a work stoppage.

One in 10 women suffers from endometriosis in France today. It takes an average of 6 to 10 years to be diagnosed. Will you make it a great national cause? How do you intend to improve the situation of patients?

I will recognize endometriosis as a long-term disease and invest in research against this disease which affects one in ten women.

More than endometriosis, much needs to be done in terms of research into women’s health in general. I will develop research on women’s health, by including them more in clinical trials to better take into account the adverse effects that concern them specifically and will set up communication campaigns aimed at professionals and the public (symptoms of quitting less known in women, overexposure of young women to the risk of stroke, etc.).

Mental Health: The past two years have been eye-opening on the subject of mental health, especially for women. What measures will you take on this subject?

Mental health will be a great cause of my five-year term to rebuild our system, today in disarray, which abandons so many of our fellow citizens.

Anne Hidalgo: her positions on abortion, PMA, surrogacy

Access to abortion is sometimes complicated for some women who live in medical deserts. What solutions do you propose to facilitate their procedures?

I will remove the double conscience clause, specific to abortion, which only makes women feel guilty. I will make effective the reorientation of women towards professionals performing abortions. I will strengthen the fight against the obstruction of abortion, in particular by prohibiting websites posing as institutions.

Concerning medical desertification, 13 departments have 0 medical gynecologist, it is unacceptable.

In order to act without delay and to bring 4,000 doctors from 2022 and then 8,000 doctors to these territories each year from 2023, a year of professionalization as a doctor-assistant in medical deserts will be included at the end of the medical interns’ course.

This year will be accompanied by supervision by experienced doctors, and double remuneration, 3,500 euros net per month, commensurate with their responsibilities.

Would you like the legal deadline for abortion to be extended?

It was socialists, like Laurence Rossignol in the Senate and Marie-Noëlle Battistel in the National Assembly, who carried the bill which extends the deadlines for abortion by increasing them from 12 weeks to 14 weeks. Of course, I’m in favor of it.

More than 7 out of 10 French people are in favor of surrogacy, what is your position on this alternative method of procreation?

The ethical practice of surrogacy is impossible when it incorporates a market logic that appropriates human relationships, allows the renting of a woman’s belly and the purchase of a baby, opening the door to omnipotence. money and the exploitation of the other.
I don’t think there is an ethical way to implement surrogacy today. It will always be a question of using the body of a woman who does not necessarily have any other choice.

However, children do not have to suffer from the decisions of their parents. They need a rapid filiation so as not to leave them in an insecure half-filiation. So I am in favor of recognizing the establishment of filiation abroad, with a French judge verifying the veracity and regularity of the judgment.

PMA: What will you do for women who are worried about waiting times?

The risk of shortage was foreseeable, at the moment when it was possible to destroy existing stocks. Why not have contacted the former donors to ask them if they consented to their identity being revealed if the child born from the donation requests it when they reach adulthood? At the very least, an information campaign should have been organized so that donors could approach the Centers for the Study and Conservation of Human Eggs and Sperm (CECOS).
I will authorize the Ropa technique (oocyte donation within the couple). Shared motherhood is, rightly, a strong demand by many female couples. In this type of project, the two women will be mothers, within the framework of the establishment of filiation, by the advance declaration provided for by law, at the time of the parental project.
Finally, I think we have to ask ourselves the question of the repatriation to France of gametes or embryos if they come from the European Union.

Many women have recently testified to obstetrical violence. How can we better protect them and help them free their voices?

I will fight against gynecological and obstetrical violence by financially penalizing the health professionals concerned, but also by training them and raising their awareness of this major issue.

Midwives have demonstrated several times this year. What action plan do you propose for better recognition of their status?

I will also support the installation of midwives throughout the national territory. I will recognize the place of midwives in women’s health journeys and I will upgrade their status accordingly.
