According to early indications, Google’s AI, Bard, could soon be entitled to a spotlight on Pixel phones.
A few days after finally formalizing its very first smartphone with a folding screen, the Pixel Fold, we now learn that the American giant is currently working on a widget reserved for its smartphones.
Bard should land on Pixel phones…
On February 7, Google finally announced its competitor to ChatGPT. Called Bard, the artificial intelligence developed by the Mountain View firm saw its deployment be somewhat rushed in the face of the phenomenal success of ChatGPT. If the chatbot is currently only accessible on the waiting list (and in certain countries only), the latter has every intention of putting the odds on its side to accelerate its adoption once officially launched.
If Bard can be used from a web browser on Android, it does not benefit from an integration as elaborate as that of ChatGPT, which is already incorporated into Microsoft Edge and its search engine Bing. But according to recent discoveries, Google’s AI should soon invade Android, and more specifically Pixel devices.
… but in what form?
Our colleagues from 9to5Google recently had fun digging through Google’s code (as they are used to). After some research, they discovered that Bard was coming to Android via a widget accessible from the home screen. If it is still impossible to determine what the exact usefulness of this widget will be, 9to5Google says it won’t just be a shortcut to a new conversation with Bard.
Anyway, the feature would currently be reserved for Google smartphones. This may therefore suggest that the American giant will soon allow Pixel owners to benefit from access to its AI other than via a web browser. It remains to be seen how Bard will be incorporated into Android: will the chatbot be integrated into the Google search engine or will it have its own application? We will certainly learn more on May 10, during the I/O 2023 conference.
