Ice Bulls cheer – “Sick goal” lifted Bulls to a work victory

Salzburg celebrated a narrow 2-1 win in Graz in the ICE Hockey League. Defender Chay Genoway delighted coach Oliver David with a dream goal.

Bottom of the league against league leaders was on paper in the Graz “bunker” and the class difference between Salzburg and the 99ers could not be overlooked from the start. Despite “one-way street ice hockey”, the Bulls bit their teeth against the brave Styrians for a long time. The favorite had several good chances early on, the hosts only had a few pinpricks. After the third break, the picture initially remained unchanged. Nevertheless, the Eisbullen were still unable to score their first goal. The people of Graz then made it out of nothing. Antonitsch scored after a Genoway penalty to make it 1-0 (29th). With anger in their stomachs, the Bulls continued their attack undeterred and made it 1-1 (35th) thanks to a harmless but hidden shot from Thaler. “We knew we were having a good day,” said the goalscorer, despite being behind. Stange saved in the end Defender Genoway provided the highlight of the game shortly before the second siren. With fine skating technique and great puck handling, the 36-year-old veteran “danced” through the Graz defense and scored carefully to make it 2-1 (39th). “That was a sick goal,” praised coach Oliver David. In the final third, the Bulls missed the preliminary decision with further chances – so it remained exciting. 20 seconds before the end, the outsider hit the bar again, but Salzburg managed to win 2-1 over time. This meant they were able to win against the 99ers for the first time in two years. David: “A tough fight, but my team showed character.”
