HC Innsbruck caught up with the top duo of the ICE ice hockey league on Saturday with an unchallenged victory at Tivoli at home. Thanks to a 5:2 win over Olimpija Ljubljana, the Haie drew level with leaders HCB Südtirol and defending champions Red Bull Salzburg and are in second place.
The game was practically decided after 35 minutes and a 5:1 lead. The VSV, meanwhile, won a hitting and always close game away against Fehervar with 6:5. The Villachers always found the right answer in the end. Only 20 seconds after the Hungarian equalizer to make it 4: 4, Arturs Kulda brought Villach back ahead (54th), 30 seconds after the renewed tie John Hughes scored the winning goal (59th).
