ICE Hockey League – Salzburg celebrates victory, VSV narrowly wins

Champion Red Bull Salzburg celebrated a 7-0 (2-0, 4-0, 1-0) thrashing of Olimpija Ljubljana in the ICE Hockey League in front of their home crowd on Thursday evening. It was the fifth defeat in a row for the Slovenians without a chance. Villacher SV won 4:3 (1:1,1:2,2:0) against the Pustertal Wolves in Bruneck. The Carinthians defended third place in the table, the Salzburg made a jump from five to fourth.

In the follow-up game of the 9th round, the “Bulls” had an easy time with the Laibachers, whom they met for the first time this season. Ali Wukovits made things clear with a brace in the first period (9th/PP, 17th). In the middle section, the hosts then moved up and away. Chay Genoway also scored twice (25′, 32’/PP), Peter Schneider on the power play (34′) and Benjamin Nissner (37′) completed the half dozen. Lucas Thaler scored the last goal of the day in the final third (55′). Olimpija is now only eleventh in the table. In the 51st round of VSV’s game against Pustertal in South Tyrol, the Carinthians wanted to forget Tuesday’s derby defeat against KAC. Alexander Rauchenwald put the guests in front after 65 seconds (2nd), but Daniel Catenacci (4th) and Marc-Olivier Roy (27th) initially turned the game around. Robert Sabolic made it 2-2 for VSV (33rd). VSV striker Andrew Desjardins countered another Italian lead in the final section (48′). Anthony Luciani’s goal to make it 4-3 (52′) meant the Pustertal team were knocked out. Shortly before the end, the game escalated into a mass brawl after a tie against VSV goalie Jean Philippe Lamoureux, which resulted in numerous penalties on both sides. That didn’t change the result, the Carinthians scored three important points and celebrated their second win in the third duel of the season with the wolves.Thursday, December 22nd, 2022EC Salzburg – Olimpija Ljubljana 7:0 (2:0,4:0,1:0 )Pustertal Wolves – EC VSV 3:4 (1:1,2:1,0:2)Friday, 23.12.2022Vienna Capitals – Fehervar AV19 19.15EC-KAC – Graz99ers 19.15Asiago Hockey – HC Innsbruck 19.45Pioneers Vorarlberg – HCB Südtirol 19.30
