The German brand has reused its ID.4 GTX platform to develop a more powerful and robust all-terrain vehicle.

At the ID event currently taking place in Locarno, Switzerland, Volkswagen is unveiling a new electric off-road concept car called ID. XTREME. It is a 100% electric model with all-wheel drive that is based on the ID.4 GTX platform, however with some improvements.

285 kW and 82 kWh battery

While the ID. 4 GTX is powered by two electric motors which together provide a maximum power of 220 kW (299 hp), the ID XTREME increases it by 65 kW (about 30%) to reach a power of 285 kW (387 hp). Volkswagen explains that these gains are due to optimizations made to the rear axle motor and software improvements.

The battery capacity, from 77 kWh for the ID.4 GTX, increases to 82 kWh. In addition, the company’s engineers have reworked the acoustics, offering a sound generated by the passage of the wheels.

Exterior and interior

The concept car is perched on 18-inch all-terrain tires. Fenders widened by 50 millimeters and the addition of a brush guard in the front, a LED light bar on the roof and aluminum underbody are supposed to reinforce its rugged character while making it more resistant and suitable for excursions “ away from paved roads “.
