Surprising indeed to remember that the British actor, revealed with the series The Wire and Luther, who played Nelson Mandela, filmed for both Marvel (Thor, Avengers) and DC (The Suicide Squad) and played in many blockbusters SF (Pacific Rim, Star Trek Sans Limites, Prometheus), began his film career as a lover of… Catherine Deneuve!
It was in 1999. In the comedy Belle Maman, a twenty-year-old Idris Elba played the character of Grégoire, a slightly jealous lover of Catherine Deneuve. In this vaudeville signed Gabriel Aghion (Soft Pedal), the Briton was notably undressed by certain guests of the wedding between Vincent Lindon and Mathilde Seigner, ending up squarely in his underwear. As a reminder, the character of Lindon will then fall in love with his stepmother, played by Deneuve.
Shortly after this appearance in the credits of the French comedy Belle Maman, Idris Elba will make a big difference by playing from 2002 one of the main roles of The Wire. A cult detective series that will propel him to stardom, Luther driving the point home in 2010.
