If Allianz is in place – the trend is towards building a new Axamer swimming pool

The community is considering building a new closed indoor swimming pool, which is very popular not only with residents of the low mountain ranges, but also with guests from Innsbruck to Zirl and Sellrain. But there are conditions.

There was a great outcry in the fall of the previous year when the community announced the end of the Axams leisure center. Energy costs, personnel and renovations have become overwhelming for the community. “The annual outflow increased from around 400,000 euros per year to over a million euros. “It was no longer responsible,” says Mayor Thomas Suitner. The closure does not affect the sauna, which is still in operation. The same applies to the outdoor area with a sports pool and diving tower: the community plans to put this back into operation in the spring, as Suitner reports. “And we haven’t given up on the leisure center either, on the contrary,” the village boss says. Inspection with experts In the meantime, architects and pool builders have gotten a precise overview of the pluses and minuses of the leisure facility. On the plus side, there is a high level of awareness and supra-regional importance: The mayor speaks of 70 percent of guests from outside, from Innsbruck to Zirl to Sellrain. Renovation versus new construction. On the minus side, 50-year-old pool technology underground, which is constantly causing renovations. “But we don’t want to continue stumbling along as we have been,” says Suitner. The building shell is not the problem, it has already been renewed once. So the choice remains between general renovation and demolition or new construction, with both variants being roughly the same price: “Experts put the renovation at €24 million, the new building at €20 to 30 million,” Suitner calculated. “Municipality “We can’t do it alone!” He prefers an energy-efficient new building. The popular “whirlpool” pool with a connection to the indoor pool would probably be history. And a new building only seems realistic if all neighboring communities and the state also pay. According to Suitner, this cannot be ruled out, “the state also took a 35% share for the Telfs swimming pool. A lot depends on the bathroom study.” This should be available in June. Only an emergency solution is a pure outdoor pool operation – as it will be visible for the first time this year.
