If the release of Black Myth Wukong on Xbox is delayed, it would be because of Sony

The statement from a Microsoft spokesperson ignites gamers who want to know why the release of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox was postponed. The culprit could be Sony.

Black Myth Wukong

When the independent studio Game Science announce the game Black Myth: Wukong, fans of “Souls like” rejoice. It must be said that apart from waiting for the Elden Ring DLC (now available), they didn’t have much to get their teeth into. The title is based on the Chinese novel The Pilgrimage to the Westalso called The Journey to the West Or The Monkey King. He notably takes up the main character, Sun Wukongwhich here bears the name of Predestined.

The images and trailers follow one another and it is clear that Black Myth: Wukong looks impressive. Then comes the cold shower for some of the players. On June 7, at Summer Game Fest 2024, a new video of the game is released. At the end, the release date is displayed as well as the platforms concerned, the August 20, 2024 on PC and PlayStation 5. But where are the Xbox Series X and S? Microsoft is quick to explain itself.

Sony would be responsible for the delayed release of Black Myth: Wukong on Xbox

We are in the process ofOptimize Xbox Series X|S version so that it meets our quality criteria. It will therefore not be released at the same time as the other platforms” explains the company. This is not the first time that Xbox consoles have posed problems for developers. To be released on Series S, Baldur’s Gate 3 had to abandon the split-screen cooperation mode, for example. But that would not be the only reason for the delay.

Asked about the ongoing optimizations, a spokesperson for the firm indicated: “[…] we are working with Game Science to bring the game to our platforms. We cannot comment on agreements concluded by our partners with other platform holdersbut we remain committed to making Xbox the best platform for gamers, and great games are at the heart of that journey.“.

Another easy-to-decode bell sound: Game Science would have signed an exclusivity contract with Sony for an indefinite period. This is of course only a supposition at this stage, but it is enough to unleash passions. We will have to wait for an official statement from one of the stakeholders to know the end of this story.
