Ghosting, wokefishing, breadcrumbing … We frequently see English neologisms blooming on new love behaviors (often jokes). The Grande-ing, the love trend inspired by Ariana Grande

Inspired by pop singer Ariana Grande, the Great-ing is to personally celebrate a rupture, by practicing the recognition of End of a relationship and rejecting negativity and bitterness as we move forward in life. A trend that we obviously owe to the success of its hit "Thank U, Next", in which she thanks her exes for what they taught her and how they helped her grow. It was the Canadian dating site Plenty of Fish that unveiled this amorous behavior in December 2018. The phenomenon therefore does not date from yesterday, but at the dawn of 2021 and good resolutions, why not let tempt by this trend of dating ?

Goodbye revenge, long live the gratitude to his ex

According to Plenty of Fish, 46% of respondents have already practiced Great-ing in the past, and it is women who are more likely to be grateful to their former partners than men (53% for women versus 40% for men). Seniors are also more likely to be grateful for their exes. The wisdom of age?

Rather than blocking our ex on Facebook and trying to make his life hell, we would have everything to gain from being inspired by Ariana Grande. Far from cultivating negative feelings towards her ex-companions, the artist takes a step back from her love life, retaining only the positive elements brought by each of her relationships.

Learn from your romantic past thanks to the Grande-ing

"One taught me love / One taught me patience, / One taught me pain / Now I feel great." Like the song of the star, the trend of Great-ing is ultimately an ode to self-esteem, kindness and resilience. She invites us to learn the lessons of our past in love to better turn the page and think about ourselves. Let's try to see the positive even in our romantic disappointments. A breakup isn't always malicious, often it happens when the two people no longer thrive in the relationship. And our exes (at least some) are not necessarily our enemies, there is nothing to be gained by hating them. So we move on and “thank u, next”.
