If you do this for a few minutes a day, you will stay fit in your head

Don't worry, it remains totally straightforward, even though it's science. It is even really enjoyable: researchers have found that just 15 minutes of meditation a day can keep our brain nice and young. However, you do not have to become a super meditation guru for this, you just have to relax a bit. But more on that later …

50 year olds as fresh as 25 year olds

Usually it is the case that the gray matter in our head becomes less with the years. However, a new study says that we can easily prevent just that – by being silent for a quarter of an hour a day and focusing on the essentials like our breathing or the sounds around us. Scientists found that when the 50-year-old did exactly that, the gray mass in his head was the same size as that of the 25-year-old. Above all, the frontal cortex, the area in the brain that is responsible for decisions, among other things, remained extremely young among the participants who meditated.

The fact that regular meditation has a positive long-term effect on the body is not completely new, it has been known for a long time that it can help to reduce pain and stress and relieve depression, among other things. The fact that it stimulates our brain so that we are mentally half as old again is not an extremely psitive, but also groundbreaking finding.

Sitting around lazily is enough!

But don't worry, you don't have to become a meditation expert who sat quietly for two hours every day before sunrise to do something good for your brain. Just a few minutes of silence can relax us, lower our blood pressure and stimulate blood circulation in the brain. This can be a short walk, drinking a cozy coffee, staring at the ceiling or staring into the garden, or simply sitting around lazily. One thing is certain: if everything is quiet, new brain cells will actually emerge. And they can never hurt.
