Officially, Google had abandoned this free formula 10 years ago, but the Mountain View firm had nevertheless maintained this service for free for some obscure reason. At least until now. In an email sent this week to the administrators of the free G Suite “Legacy” accounts, the American giant announces the end of this service as of 1er July 2022.” All remaining G Suite Legacy users will now upgrade to an upgraded Google Workspace subscription based on their usage “says Google in its message.
Subscriptions from 5 euros per month
In fact, affected users will have until 1er May 2022 to choose a new formula, on which they will benefit from a reduction of 12 months after their first billing. Without action on their part before the deadline, Google will automatically select a subscription that best suits their needs and uses. On the other hand, nothing will be charged to them for two months, specifies the site 9to5Google. However, accounts will be suspended if no billing information is entered before the deadline.
There are currently free offers of Workspace, but they are only for non-profit organizations and those intended for education. Users of the historical version of Google Apps will then have to turn to one of the paid offers of the new service, whose billing starts at 5.20 euros per month in France (excluding reductions). The accounts concerned will undoubtedly have to resign themselves to checkout, under penalty of losing 10 years of archives. However, it will be possible to export data to a Google Cloud archive on request.
