A survey looked at the current value of certain Tech objects, smartphones in the lead. A ranking makes it possible to identify those which will sell for the cheapest on the second-hand market. Among the first, three date from 2022.
Between inflation and the ever higher prices of certain high-end smartphones, but not only that, it is sometimes difficult to change mobile at a reasonable price. One of the solutions is to turn to the second-hand market. Whether through specialized sites, more general platforms like Amazon or even through private sales, used smartphones are on the rise.
But maybe you are in the opposite situation? You wish resell your device and while we’re at it, get a good price. The Simple Ghar site has carried out a survey to find out what are devices that have lost the most value over the years. For this, the analysis focuses on 29 manufacturers and more than 1000 products (not just mobiles). Using Amazon US and UK, the teams compare the original price and the standard price for the same item but “used: like new”. A average percentage decrease is then calculated.

Looking only at smartphones, one thing is immediately obvious: in the top 5, three date from 2022 and two of them are high end. The leader is the Galaxy S22 from Samsungwith a dead loss of 40% of its resale value. Still in last year’s models comes the Galaxy A53, with minus 36.76%. The study believes that the Korean brand is releasing too many phones too quickly, hence the rapid drop. Finally, the OnePlus 10 Pro shows an average decrease of 36.56% from its original price.
OnePlus is also the brand whose products, all combined, sell for the cheapest: minus 21.82% on average. On the bitten apple side, however, things are going better. Apple only shows an 11.2% decrease overall across all the articles studied. Here again, it is a mobile from last year which loses the most, the iPhone 14 with 24.68% less. Of course, these are just trends based on a single sales platform. The study, however, offers interesting benchmarks to better position yourself when reselling or buying second-hand.
