9 years after the release of Dragon Age: Inquisitionwe are still without news of an official release date for Dragon Age: Dreadwolf. But Jeff Grubb thinks he has some important information.

These imply that Mass Effect 5 will be released later than expected.

Dragon Age: Dread Wolf not before the end of 2024?

In development for a long time, the next installment of dragon age seems to suffer or have suffered from a complicated production. Many historical developers of the studio have taken to their heels, and we feel that the bitter failure ofAnthem left traces. In reaction to the announced wave of layoffs, Jeff Grubb, from the site Giant Bombused his connections to get some important information about the upcoming RPG.

According to his sources, Dragon Age: Dreadwolf was scheduled for September 2023, but many difficulties would have led to multiple postponements of the title, first to March 2024, then to the third quarter of 2024. The journalist also thinks that this release window could only be temporary, EA may decide to fully exploit the last fiscal quarter which will go until March 2025.

The situation of Dragon Age: Dreadwolf would be so complicated that BioWare would have decided to call on a good part of the teams devoted to the preproduction of Mass Effect 5 to help development. This decision could obviously have repercussions on the production schedule for the studio’s next space-opera RPG.

BioWare: after the glory, the difficulties

In 2014, BioWare was still considered an essential studio, with its history on Baldur’s Gate, Neverwinter, Mass Effect And Dragon Age, even if the second opus, very different from the first, had been received in heterogeneous ways. The troubles started with Mass Effect: Andromedawhich, while having a very pleasant gameplay, had failed to reproduce the feelings of the trilogy.

The real blow came with Anthem. If it initially made people want a lot during its presentation at E3, it was very different when it was released. Various investigations have highlighted a very complicated development and, despite an announced desire to redesign the game after the release, BioWare ended up moving on. Since then, the studio has seen many departures, including those of historical developers (Drew Karpyshyn, Aaryn Flynn, Mac Walters,
Matt Goldman, Jay Watamaniuk).

Very recently, we learned that the studio was going to lay off 50 people after “ careful thought and planning “in order to gain in” agility about current and future projects. For many observers, this shows that if EA continues to finance major solo games, they will have fewer resources than service games such as EA Sports or Apex Legends productions.

Some developers have already indicated they are concerned, and many studio veterans seem affected. However, Gary McKay, the boss of BioWare, suggests that this will not affect the quality of productions. Finally, let’s remember that BioWare Austin will entrust the management of the MMO to another studio. Star Wars: The Old Republic.
