Launched in September 2020, the Venu SQ was distinguished by its rectangular format and its price of € 199.99 making it more accessible than the Venu, at the price of a few concessions. Two years later, here is its replacement, the Venu SQ 2. More durable and more opulent, it is similar to its big sister, the Venu 2.

AMOLED rather than LCD

The most visible improvement is the switch to AMOLED display technology, which advantageously replaces the LCD screen of the Venu SQ. A slightly larger AMOLED screen, at 1.41 “against 1.3”, with a definition of 320 x 360 px and compatible with the permanent display (Always-on display). The screen is protected by Gorilla Glass 3 with curved edges.

This new Venu is not however larger than its elder (case of 40.6 x 37 mm) and is even less thick (11.1 mm against 11.6 mm).

Autonomy almost doubled

A priori, not enough to accommodate a much larger battery and yet the Venu SQ 2 would offer almost twice as much autonomy, reaching up to 11 days of operation on connected watch use and up to 26 hours in GPS mode , compared to up to 6 days and 14 hours respectively for the Venu SQ. That’s as much as a Venu 2 offers, and even 4 hours more for GPS mode.

Enough to enjoy its sports modes for longer, now 28 in number, five more than the first SQ of the name. A Hiit mode and workouts are now included in the watch to more easily track sets of cardio and strength exercises. Certified waterproof to 5 ATM, the SQ 2 is therefore suitable for swimming.

In terms of connected functions, there is of course the display of notifications, but not the management of telephone calls via Bluetooth, unlike what the Venu 2 offer, due to the lack of integrated microphone and speaker. NFC contactless payment is nevertheless included with Garmin Pay.

Upgrade, with or without music

The Garmin Venu SQ 2 also comes in a “Music Edition”, adding wifi connectivity and 4GB of internal memory to store your favorite songs, with possible synchronization of Spotify, Deezer and Amazon Music playlists. The music is then broadcast to headphones connected via Bluetooth to the watch.

Available now, the Garmin Venu SQ 2 charges a little more for its services, its price still increasing by €70 compared to the Venu SQ to reach €269.99. Count only 30 € more on the other hand for the Venu SQ 2 Music Edition. Three case colors are available for each version: anthracite, gold and mint for the normal SQ 2 and anthracite, gold and rose gold for the Music Edition.
