Alongside its new Honor 70 smartphone, Honor took advantage of the IFA to announce a Pad 8 tablet and a laptop PC: the MagicBook 14.
Honor is primarily known as a smartphone producer (in fact, we’ve just tested the Honor 70), but it’s been turning to the laptop market for a few years now with its MagicBook series. After a mid-range MagicBook 14 released in 2021, the manufacturer is back with a new 2022 version equipped with a 12th generation Intel processor and sporting a more modern design.
The aluminum chassis weighs 1.5 kg and is actually neater than the previous edition. The screen offers a definition of 2160 x 1440 px with relatively thin borders (the occupancy rate is 88%), but the webcam located on the upper edge unfortunately only films in 720p. The touch screen, on the other hand, seems very reflective, which we can verify during our laboratory test. Finally, the connection is relatively complete with an HDMI port, a USB-C port, a USB-A port and a mini-jack socket.
On the component side, we will find an Intel Core i5-12500H processor – whose performance we will have to evaluate – as well as 16 GB of RAM and 512 GB of SSD. A second iteration of the PC will also be equipped with an Nvidia GeForce RTX 2050 graphics card, an entry-level model of course, but which will make it possible to speed up processing in software for videographers and photographers in particular, and even to play a few games in Full HD on occasion.
The model with graphics card will come with a 135 W charger and will be available at a price of 1299 €. The classic MagicBook will be limited to 65 W with a lighter price of 1099 €.
