IFA 2022 is an opportunity for Samsung to present its new MicroLED TVs. By the end of the year, the 89 and 114-inch models should be available at prices that are still plump. It takes about 1000 € (excl. VAT) per thumb, i.e. respective prices of 106,800 and 136,800 € (incl. VAT). The 76 and 101 inch models will only be available in 2023 for around 91,200 and 121,200 € (including VAT).
Samsung explains that it has further improved the manufacturing process by successfully placing several MicroLEDs simultaneously using a laser process.
Remember that MicroLED technology combines the advantages of OLED and conventional LCD televisions. It allows a higher peak of brightness in order to produce very bright and realistic specular while maintaining infinite contrast as on OLED panels. Additionally, MicroLED leverages non-organic sub-pixels, which do not degrade over time or suffer from marking.
We were able to test Samsung’s first MicroLED TV and the brightness peak was quite disappointing. It only reaches 1260 cd / m² when the most efficient Oled and QD-Oled models – such as the Panasonic TX-65JZ2000 or the Sony Bravia 55A95K – can exceed 950 cd / m².
MicroLED technology is still in the future, but for now, it is far too expensive for ordinary mortals. Samsung’s goal is to offer modules of about fifteen centimeters, which the user could install himself at home. The screens would be modular and it would be possible to change the size of the TV and the image on the fly. For the moment, this remains a sweet dream since the assembly of the tiles is carried out in the factory and by laser, except for the very large models which require the presence of Samsung engineers on site (see our article on The Wall Gallery installed at the Perrotin Gallery).
