IFA 2022 – The air purifier, the most exhibited product on the stands this year

4

The IFA is the European electronic meeting. And while walking the aisles of the Berlin show, the team of Digital is unanimous: air purifiers have taken over the stands. A brief overview of these devices that have the wind in their sails.

After two years of absence due to the pandemic, the IFA is back in Berlin. While some major manufacturers have deserted the consumer show, such as Philips, the Harman group (JBL, AKG, etc.) and Hisense, others were present to present their new products. Retail buyers came to take the temperature of the electronics market for the coming months, while consumers fond of new technologies were amazed.

The team of Digital, for its part, obviously did not miss the appointment and deployed the major means. A veritable journalistic regiment has taken over the German capital, on the lookout for possible innovations. But crisscrossing the aisles of the show, the observation is clear: air purifiers are the most represented product category on the stands in 2022. The opportunity to see or review models on the market.

How the pricing table works

Wandering through the bays of the Berlin show, we saw a plant on the Mateko stand, but its pot was in fact an air purifier: Aria. “Inspired by NASA’s report on the natural power of plant roots”, as Mateko indicates on its website, the designers have combined two air purification technologies. Natural technology therefore joins material technology to sanitize our interiors with originality.

To do this, Aria uses the phytosanization of plants, that is to say the purification of the air thanks to plants. Via a “plant library” (an e-catalogue), Mateko makes 40 varieties of plants available to the user, all with different properties. Aloe vera, for example, is very effective at trapping formaldehyde; the devil’s creeper eliminates carbon monoxide while the orchid helps destroy VOCs. It’s up to you to set your priorities.

To that old-ass methodhomo sapiens sapiens, Mateko adds several advanced technologies. A multi-layer filter consisting of a prefilter, a HEPA filter and an activated carbon filter is the first stage of purification. A UV-C lamp and an ion generator complete the process to trap air pollutants, such as PM2.5 (particles) and bacteria and viruses by 99.99%.

With Aria, Mateko therefore provides a solution to sublimate an interior, while cleaning it up. This hybrid air purifier is already offered at 435 €.

Bespoke Cube Air Purifier, Samsung’s designer air purifier

In a completely different category, Samsung exhibited its Cube Air Purifier. Part of the Bespoke collection, the device adopts a slick style, easy to integrate into your home. So that its herringbone front panels are interchangeable and can then adopt a whole palette of colors.

Behind its contemporary design, the Cube Air Purifier has a more than complete filtration system: double pre-filter, HEPA filter, carbon filter and fan equipped with a UV LED. Thanks to this combination, the device would be able to purify a room of 53 m². Samsung also claims to be able to eliminate nearly 99% of the pollutants present in the air. The air microsensor also measures the level of ambient pollution and helps the device to adapt its purification intensity in real time.

The Cube Air Purifier is designed to draw air in five different ways, before releasing it in three directions once purified. And there is no question of feeling a draft when the device is running. The South Korean manufacturer equips it with its WindFree technology: the purifier is quieter and does not produce a blast of air.

Finally, who says Samsung, says SmartThings. The purifier actually benefits from this rich ecosystem, which allows the manufacturer’s devices to be connected to each other.

Available on Amazon, the Cube Air Purifier is priced at €700.

The Fresh Air Pro Compact from Russell Hobbs, 2-in-1 for small spaces

The British Russell Hobbs also presented an air purifier at IFA. The very discreet Fresh Air Pro Compact can be installed on a shelf or table thanks to its small dimensions (31 cm high, 21.8 cm wide and 20 cm deep). Especially since the manufacturer announces a filtration capacity suitable for rooms of only 20 m².

But this format does not make it give up certain features. Indeed, the Fresh Air Pro Compact also acts as a dehumidifier. It can then extract up to 750 ml of water from the ambient air in 24 hours and its tank can hold 1 liter of liquid. And in order to avoid accidents, the device automatically pauses when its water tank is full.

Simple to use, it has three levels of intensity adjustable via sensitive keys. Last advantage: its price. The Russell Hobbs Fresh Air Pro Compact is on sale for just €80 on Amazon.
