Thomson is relaunching in the gaming segment with two 15.6 and 17 inch models resolutely turned towards gamers. A third more compact model, with a light configuration, is designed for Cloud Gaming.
Thomson was particularly active during the IFA in Berlin, with many products and no less than four new models of laptops including the Thomson Evo. Three other notebooks for gamers were unveiled in the process: two 15.6-inch and 17-inch models with the same configuration, and a small 13-inch model designed to exploit cloud gaming platforms at a lower cost.
The Gaming 15 and 17 have an IPS panel displaying 1920 x 1080 pixels with a frequency of 144 Hz. As for the processor, Thomson has made a sensible choice by limiting itself to the Core i5-12500H (12C/16T) accompanied a single 8 GB DDR4 bar and a 512 GB SSD. You will therefore have to think about quickly installing a second 8 GB bar in order to take advantage of the Dual Channel and fully exploit the Nvidia GeForce RTX 3050. Such a configuration should allow playing in Full HD on the latest games with a level of detail set to medium, while competitive games should be able to take advantage of the 144 Hz of the on-board panel.
Thomson did not design its two chassis, but called on Clevo, which offers its services to many brands that cannot develop such products internally. The design is a stereotypical gaming laptop with backlit claws on the lid and sharp straight lines.
The connectivity of the Gaming 15 and 17 is complete, with a USB-C port, a USB 2.0 port and two USB3.0 ports. As a video output, there is an aging mini Display Port and an HDMI port. The network part consists of a Gigabit RJ45 port and wifi 6.
Thomson expects the Gaming 15 and Gaming 17 models to be available in early 2023 at prices of €1,099 and €1,199 respectively.
Thomson Neo Gaming Celeron for Cloud Gaming
A third model piqued our curiosity: the Neo Gaming. This model is entirely dedicated to Cloud Gaming services such as Microsoft’s xCloud Gaming, Nvidia’s GeForce Now or Shadow.
The Neo Gaming allows you to simply connect with its wifi 6 card (Intel Killer AX1650) or its RJ45 socket to the network and enjoy gaming services. The rest of the configuration is particularly modest: Intel Celeron N5100, 4 GB of RAM and 128 GB SSD. It still has a 15.6-inch Full HD screen to play in good conditions.
