For IFA 2022, Tineco has redesigned the toaster, or rather the way to drive it. The Toasty One is therefore equipped with a very sophisticated interface based on a touch screen for a function that is quite basic after all.
Tineco is no longer just a floor care specialist. With the Toasty One, the manufacturer makes a place for itself on our worktops and breakfast tables. Of course, to generate interest, the Toasty One couldn’t just toast the toast, it had to do it with some panache. And it is in the form of a touch screen that it comes. Indeed, while the vast majority of toasters are controlled with a wheel, often imprecise and not very vocal, the Chinese are counting on the wow effect with a large touch screen. Note that this is not the first time that we have come across a toaster with a screen. A few months ago, the Revolution R180 High Speed Smart Toaster got the ball rolling.
Using the Toasty One is most instinctive. A smart (or intelligent) mode relies on automatic programs. These are intended for just heating the bread, but they can also be adapted to certain constraints such as fresh or frozen products. While obligated to this automatic mode, the manual mode allows the user to choose himself and with great precision the level of browning of his toast. From just warm to more charred, all nuances are possible. Like many other toasters, the Toasty One has two slots to facilitate the preparation of toast. And of course, each slot can be adjusted independently of the other. Finally, the Toasty One can store eight configurations so that each member of the family is entitled to their favorite toast.
Once the various parameters have been established, all you have to do is touch the Start button to see the slices of bread disappear into the slots. The screen then gives way to two percentages (one for the left toast, another for the right toast) which provide information on the progress of the operations. And once the process is complete, the slices rise up to be caught without burning.
On paper, the Toasty One has it all, but there is a catch in the land of chocolatine/pain au chocolat! The toaster is not at all designed to accommodate long slices of baguette or pastries.
An essential screen?
Obviously, the question of the relevance of such an accomplished interface on such a simple domestic device arises. Having tested it, we must admit that everything works perfectly and that we have a lot of fun varying the different levels of browning. But in fact, it would be just as easy to adjust all this via a simple rotary knob.
Another question: will the screen (and all its electronics) survive the ravages of time for a long time? It’s hard to say, but today’s touch screens have quite a comfortable lifespan. On the other hand, it is impossible to deny that this excess of means has a cost since the selling price of the Toasty One reaches 339 €. It should be available from mid-September 2022.
