iFixit partners with the Repair Café Foundation

The Repair Café foundation, an organization that manages collaborative repair workshops bringing together passionate volunteers and consumers wishing to repair their broken objects, has become a partner of the specialist in the disassembly and repair of electronic devices and household appliances, iFixit. We will therefore now find iFixit repair tutorials directly on the Repair Café site, which will improve access to self-repair and will help fight against obsolescence. In total, iFixit offers over 75,000 tutorials spanning 25 product categories.

“Since 2011, the Repair Café Foundation has supported local groups in the creation of each Repair Café, so as to share their know-how to help users repair their broken devices for free. Thanks to our cooperation, we now offer thousands of free iFixit tutorials on our site in order to offer a complete repair solution accessible to all”says Martine Postma, founder of Repair Café in 2009.

In reality, the collaboration between iFixit and Repair Café is not entirely new. Indeed, iFixit has been supporting this foundation’s approach for years and helping it set up new workshops, in particular by providing it with free tool kits to facilitate the dismantling of the various devices. Kits that iFixit markets on its website, at prices ranging from 13 to 75 €.

“We are delighted to join forces with Repair Café, a key player in the sector, to further promote the right to repair! A common fight that we have been waging on our side for almost 20 years through the design of our own tools as well as the sharing free and royalty-free tutorials with the largest community of repairers in the world”adds Sandra Auboy, communication specialist at iFixit.

Note, finally, that each tool kit sold by iFixit over the Black Friday period will give rise to the payment of €1 to the Repair Café foundation.
