Ifop poll: Macron unscrews, Le Pen reaps

The president of the RN group in the Assembly climbed to 6th place on the Ifop-Fiducial scoreboard, overtaking the head of state.

She has never been so popular. Two months after her defeat in the presidential election, Marine Le Pen jumped 7 points in the Ifop-Fiducial scoreboard for Match and Sud Radio and settled in 6th place with 44% of good opinions. Here is the ex-president of the RN neck and neck with Le Maire (- 4) but ahead of Sarkozy (-1) and especially ahead of Macron, down 4 points. A little revenge for the daughter of Jean-Marie Le Pen, long relegated in this ranking with less than a quarter of French people having a “good opinion” of her. The demonization ended up bearing fruit. The result of the legislative elections, which allowed the RN to win 89 deputy seats, broke the glass ceiling preventing it from overcoming the Republican front.

In detail, Le Pen now appeals to the male electorate (+9), people over 65 (+9), 50-64 year olds (+13), residents of rural communities (+15), executives (+6). It is progressing with the electorate on the left (+5) but falling with Les Républicains (-6). The boss of the RN brings in her wake her protege, Jordan Bardella. He gains 6 points (31%). The acting president of the far-right party traces the path of this new generation of elected officials who are very exposed during the presidential and legislative elections. The rebellious Adrien Quatennens, heir to Mélenchon, benefits from the same dynamic: +7 points and 22% good opinions.

Alert for Macron, terminal spared

Marine Le Pen laughing, Emmanuel Macron crying. The popularity of the re-elected president is declining further. After -2 in May, it fell by 4 points in June. With 42% of good opinions, the Head of State falls in almost all categories: – 7 among those under 35; – 11 in the elderly; – 9 among workers; – 7 with the voters of Mélenchon and – 12 with the Lepenists. The re-elected president, who suffered a snub in the legislative elections, is without an absolute majority in the Assembly. Confirmed at Matignon, Borne seems spared for the moment. With +5 good opinions, the Prime Minister is hot on the heels of the President. As if it was he who paid for the inaction of the first two months of the executive and not his head of government. The tandem seems in any case to have entered a zone of turbulence. The key ministers are in the sights of the French: The Mayor (Economy) is down 4 points; same punishment for Darmanin; Attal (– 2) and Dussopt (– 3). Only the Keeper of the Seals Dupond-Moretti (+4) and Véran (+1), rather discreet, do a little well.

The right not found, the communist Roussel takes off

On the opposition side, apart from Marine Le Pen, no one really benefits from the breakdown of power. Right-wing leaders remain unpopular. The heads of LR do not reap: Xavier Bertrand (37%) and Laurent Wauquiez (35%) remain far away, as does the very media Rachida Dati (34%) who does not do better than Gérard Larcher (34%). Nicolas Sarkozy halts his fall, but he remains far from former Prime Ministers Édouard Philippe and Jean Castex. He is even overtaken by the phenomenon Fabien Roussel (+5). This is the first time that a communist elected official has appeared in the top 10 of this ranking of the favorite political figures of the French.

The Ifop-Fiducial survey for Paris Match and Sud Radio was carried out on a sample of 1,009 people, representative of the French population aged 18 and over. The representativeness of the sample was ensured by the quota method (sex, age, profession of the head of the family, level of education), after stratification by region and category of agglomeration. The interviews took place by telephone on June 22 and 23, 2022.
