Ikea makes shopping a little less stressful: the “Shop & Go” app function can now be used in all furniture stores. Articles are scanned while shopping and later paid for at a self-service checkout. Waiting times are reduced and the goods can remain in the shopping cart.
Ikea: “Shop & Go” available throughout Germany
At the end of 2021, Ikea had expanded its app to include the “Shop & Go” function, but had previously only offered it in five German furniture stores. That has now changed, because customers can now use it throughout Germany. All 54 Ikea stores now allow you to scan the desired items yourself.
Ikea hopes for customers shorter waiting times via “Shop & Go”.. There is also no need to clear out the shopping trolley and then put it back in at the checkout. While shopping, customers hold their smartphone with the Ikea app open in front of the desired product and then place it in the shopping cart.
the cost of purchasing are continuously updated in the Ikea app and can be viewed at any time (source: Ikea). This way, customers know how much they have to pay before they check out.
Customers do not have to queue at a conventional checkout with “Shop & Go”. You go to a self-service checkout, which Ikea calls Expresskasse. Unlike usual, the items do not have to be scanned and returned there. Instead, the goods are only paid for at the self-service checkouts. Ikea would like to expand the “Shop & Go” function in the near future based on feedback. Other features are also planned for the app, such as a 3D planning solution.
